After Graduation

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

Graduates of eligible programs at BrightlyEd may apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, allowing them to work in Canada for up to the length of their program (maximum 3 years for longer programs).

PGWP Eligibility โ€” BrightlyEd Programs

All diploma programs (2 years) โ†’ PGWP up to 2 years. Certificate programs (1 year) โ†’ PGWP up to 1 year. Certificate programs under 8 months are NOT eligible for PGWP.

Application Window

Apply for your PGWP within 180 days of receiving written notification from BrightlyEd that you have completed your program. Your Study Permit must be valid when you apply or you must apply within 90 days of its expiry.

Pathway to Permanent Residency

Work experience gained on a PGWP qualifies for Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class). Many BrightlyEd graduates achieve PR within 2 years of graduation. Our ISO advisors can connect you with immigration consultants.

PGWP FAQ

Can I work full-time while waiting for my PGWP?
If you've applied for the PGWP while your Study Permit is still valid, and you maintained valid student status, you can work full-time while your application is in process under "maintained status."
Does my PGWP length depend on my program?
Yes. Programs 8 months to under 2 years โ†’ PGWP equal to program length. Programs 2 years or longer โ†’ PGWP up to 3 years. All BrightlyEd diploma programs qualify for the maximum.
Can I renew my PGWP?
No. A PGWP can only be issued once. After it expires, you must have another valid status (PR, spousal permit, another study/work permit) to continue working in Canada.
What if I failed a course or had academic probation?
You must maintain full-time enrollment and academic standing throughout. Academic issues that affected your enrollment status may affect PGWP eligibility. Contact the ISO immediately if you're facing academic challenges.
